Sketch Thursday

Welcome back to Sketch Thursday! Today's layout is inspired by the amazingly talented  (and brand new DT member) Martha.

I loved the vellum background on the original layout so I copied it (with a curvy font). I was also inspired by the layering of papers and tags (though I'm not great at it so mine is a minimalistic take on the layering ;))

We'd love to see how this sketch inspires you! Link your projects or simply leave a comment here for a chance to win a $10 Elle's Studio gift certificate.

Last week's randomly selected winner is... Andrea Wiebe

Congratulations and thank you for playing along!! Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info to claim your prize:

Our new collections have arrived!

Today is the BIG day - our brand new collections are now in the shop. We are so excited to have these new lines stocked and ready to ship, we can hardly wait to see what you guys make with them! These collections are also shipping to a lot of retailers, so they might already be on the shelf at your local scrapbook store!

Here's a little peek at each collection:
Our You & Me collection is a really fun collection for you and the ones you love. It has the perfect mix of pinks, reds, krafts, blues, and even some chalkboard mixed in, so you can use it for girls or boys!

Our Day To Day collection is the perfect collection for everyday scrapbooking! The bright and fun colors in this collection will work well with almost any photo and moment you want to capture.

Both collections now include coordinating 12 x 12 double-sided papers, and our new tab shaped tag! Our tabs work great for layering and/or journaling on layouts, cards, mini album (and mini album pages) BUT they will also fit into your Project Life page protectors. There are so many uses for this tag set!

And, just in case you missed it, make sure you check out all the amazing projects that were put together, by some incredible ladies, with these new lines for our CHA booth! You can see them here: You & Me and Day To Day. And, tomorrow there will be even MORE inspiration! Tomorrow is our new Design Team's first gallery debut and I'm really excited for you to see what they did!

Thanks for stopping by today - we are so excited to see what you create with these new goodies! Don't forget to upload your creations to our Member Gallery!

Project Life

This week's Project Life covers week 3:  January 14-20.

The beginning of January marked 18 months since I began documenting using the Project Life system. I absolutely love this method of scrapbooking.  With the new year, I challenged myself to try new things as I designed my spread.   It's fun (and inspiring) to spice things up a bit.  Even a slight move away from "the norm" offers opportunities to learn and be inspired.  It reminds me of what we always tell our children at the dinner table-- "just try it, you might like it!"

So for this week my goal was to not fill every pocket with photos.   Now let me first say, there is nothing wrong with filling every pocket with photos! :)  I chose this challenge so that I could play a little bit more in the pockets, and so that the photos I DID choose would be highlighted and might make a statement (sometimes I feel like my photos can get lost if I fill every pocket with a photo).

In my "non-photo" pockets I used logos (from a napkin), a little badge my son received when he lost a tooth, cover of the Star Wars trilogy (which has been playing nonstop at our home), a tidbit from the new You & Me collection (backed with a transparency), and packaging from a gift I received from my grandma.

For this spread I included TWO inserts.   The first one is a Design A Page Protector by Becky Higgins trimmed in half.

The second insert is an 8 1/2 x 11 page.   this is an interesting insert--- a cartoonist drew my dad (far right) and his three brothers holding a picture of their father and a copy of "Resolve" (the book about my grandfather's WW2 experience).   We received the cartoon this week and this is a copy of the PDF file. Really special and fun to include in Project Life.

The backside of the insert is a little collage of clothing tags acquired from an outlet mall trip this week.  I love seeing the price tags and also the sizes I bought for my kids.

The final right side page is an enlarged sunset from this week.  It's a 12x12 photo printed through Mpix.com.  (they also now print 4x4 prints!).   I loved highlighting this beautiful winter sunset.

Sketch Thursday

Hello and happy Thursday! Today's sketch was inspired by Valerie's New Toy layout from January's DT gallery.
I love how this layout seems very simple yet is full of little details. Look at all the splattering, stamping, and layering... amazing!

We're super happy to see so many of you participate last week. Thank you!! I hope you are equally inspired this week and can't wait to see what you create with this sketch. Leave us a comment or link your projects here for a chance to win a $10 Elle's Studio gift certificate. We'll announce the winner next Thursday, when we introduce the new sketch for the week.

Project Life

This week's Project Life covers Week 2: January 7- 13th, 2013.

I had a blast creating this week's Project Life.  I don't know if it was because I was adding in the NEW Elle's Studio products, incorporating the Seafoam Core Kit from Becky Higgins, or maybe it was the fresh start of 2013... regardless, it was so much fun to make!  (don't you love week's like that?)

A few interesting things to note:  I decided to incorporate my One Little Word for 2013 ("bold") by using photo with a birthday candle and incorporating the candle in the spelling (this was also the week of my birthday, so the theme fit very well!)   It was a fun and different way to incorporate my goals for this year.

I decide this week I wanted to include more "found objects" in my spread.  I tend to lean more towards photography and journaling within my Project Life.  This is an area I don't include all that often, and I am hoping to work on that this year.   I added the gift tag to my son's birthday balloons,  packaging from our favorite oranges, an Einstein Bagels bag, and a birthday letter I received from my 8th grade Bible teacher (he write all the students he's ever had on their birthdays every year-- this is my 20th letter from him-- is that amazing or what!?)

Congrats to Roberta you won last week's giveaway!  Please email michelle@shopellesstudio.com the following info to claim your prize:

Project Life was created by Becky Higgins as a way to simplify how you document life and preserve memories. Photo pockets used in my Project Life album are created by Becky and can be found here.  You can read of all the Elle's Studio Project Life posts here.
